Also known as windflower, Anemone multifida is a spring-flowering anemone, ideal for growing in moist, shady situations such as woodland, or north-facing gardens. Plants form a low mound of fern-like, silver-green foliage, from which upright stalks of small butter-yellow flowers appear for several weeks. Flowers are followed by woolly seedheads in late summer.
For best results, grow Anemone multifida with other shade-loving plants such as hostas and ferns. Divide clumps in autumn or spring and mulch annually with leaf mould or well-rotted manure.
