How is the Flymo 1200R installed?
Installed yourself with the help of a clear instruction booklet and video guides online the 1200R is not difficult to set up but the instructions must be followed exactly for the mower to work well or at all. It’s worth doing this properly from the start or you may well have to redo laying the wires again – and as the 1200R has both a boundary wire (which defines the perimeter of the lawn) and a guide wire (to help the mower get back to the docking station when its finished or needs recharging) to install there is already added work and possible stress depending on the size and complexity of your lawn with tis mower compared to other DIY models.
The docking station demands a large clear area all around it too which can limit its positioning and depending on the shape of your lawn may mean it ends up somewhere you would rather it wasn’t. It is larger than the other small lawn mowers we tested and its bright colour does mean it stands out on the lawn which could also bother some people.
Is the Flymo 1200R easy to programme?
Programming is easy with clear, logical questions and as the mower doesn’t have many features it’s simple to set and go. Once its programmed there’s very little future input needed. The height of cut is a simple rotary dial on the top of the mower.
How well does the Flymo 1200R cut?
Three free hanging blades cut the grass smoothly and quietly and up and over most edges leaving a clean finish – the lowers height of cut available is 17cm.
Cuts slopes up to just 25% and has a narrowest cutting width of 90cm which is wider than some other models tested. It will also leave a strip of around 12cm along edges next to raised beds etc which will need trimming by hand.
What Features does the Flymo 1200R have?
The 1200R is a simple robot with few features but this is reflected in the low price. It can cut in two separate areas although you do have to physically pick the mower up and carry it into the second area and then mow it on the manual setting. Alternatively, you can buy a second docking station.
The 1200R has no smart connectivity. Security features include PIN code operation, a lift sensor and alarm.
Is the Flymo 1200R good value for money?
Easily the cheapest mower tested and for a simple efficient entry level mower with a two year warranty we think the 1200R is excellent value for money. It also comes with spare blades.
Are there other models available?
Currently only the Flymo 1200R is available but two more Flymo robotic mowers are due to launch in 2020.
